GHATSHILA – Ghatsila women, led by BJP leader Jayanti Sen, hold protest march demanding justice for murdered trainee doctor in Kolkata.
Hundreds of women in Ghatsila took to the streets to protest the rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.
The march, organized by BJP leader and social worker Jayanti Sen, saw participants carrying banners and placards with slogans demanding justice.
Protesters chanted, "We want justice" and "No justice, no peace" as they marched from Maubhandar Ambedkar Chowk to Subhash Chowk near Ghatsila railway station.
At Subhash Chowk, the women lit candles and held a moment of silence to honor the victim’s memory.
The demonstrators called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation, expressing their lack of confidence in the state government’s ability to ensure women’s safety.
BJP district minister Geeta Murmu and social worker Dr. Sunita Devdoot Soren jointly stated, "There is nationwide outrage against the atrocities being committed against mothers and sisters. All states must take this seriously."
They demanded swift investigations and harsh punishments for perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
"Cases like these need to be investigated quickly, and those committing such demonic acts should face severe consequences," the leaders emphasized.
The protest highlighted the growing concern over women’s safety in West Bengal and across India.
Participants stressed the importance of creating a safer environment for women, with slogans like "Where women are safe, the nation is strong" prominently displayed.
The march saw participation from various sections of society, including local BJP leaders, social workers, and concerned citizens.
Notable attendees included district councillor Devyani Murmu, Jyoti Sen, and numerous other women from the local community.
This demonstration in Ghatsila reflects the wider national sentiment calling for stringent measures to curb violence against women and ensure their safety in all spheres of life.
