Highway Damage Disrupts Bus Services to Odisha Border

20 km detour affects 60 daily buses, causing passenger frustration

A critical 3.8 km stretch of highway near Chakradharpur has deteriorated, halting direct bus routes to Odisha.

JAMSHEDPUR – Bus operations between Chakradharpur and the Odisha border have been disrupted due to severe damage on a 3.8 km stretch of highway, forcing vehicles to take a 20 km detour.

The affected road segment, connecting Bandlaite village to the Odisha border, has become nearly impassable.

Approximately 60 buses that previously plied this route daily have been compelled to use alternative paths.

Local commuters express growing frustration over the extended travel times and inconvenience.

The damaged highway, constructed in 2021, rapidly deteriorated due to alleged subpar workmanship.

Residents claim their numerous complaints about the road’s condition have gone unheeded.

For over two weeks, buses heading to Odisha have been rerouted, significantly impacting travel schedules.

Both passengers and transport operators are grappling with the challenges posed by the diverted route.

A roadways operator highlighted that the issue has persisted since August 2023, calling for swift repairs.

Travelers have voiced their discontent, urging authorities to address the road damage promptly.

The district administration has reportedly been notified of the situation, though no action has been taken yet.

Local communities are rallying for immediate intervention to restore the vital transport link.

The deteriorated road condition has raised questions about the quality of infrastructure projects in the region.

Officials face mounting pressure to expedite repair work and reinstate normal bus services.

This incident underscores the broader issue of infrastructure maintenance in rural and border areas.
