Former MP and senior Congress leader Dr. Ajoy Kumar criticizes the central government over Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and misuse of funds.
Former MP and senior Congress leader Dr. Ajoy Kumar criticized the central government after Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women’s wrestling 50 kg category due to being 100 grams overweight.
JAMSHEDPUR – Dr. Ajoy Kumar, former MP and senior Congress leader, criticized the central government following the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the 50 kg category for being 100 grams overweight.
Dr. Kumar pointed out the disparity in government spending, noting that ₹38 crores are spent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promotions without much discussion, while the government’s ₹70.45 lakh financial aid to Vinesh was highlighted in Parliament by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
He called this announcement not only shameful but also unfortunate.
Dr. Kumar stated that the entire nation is mourning Vinesh’s disqualification ahead of the Paris Olympics and criticized the Sports Minister for boasting about the financial aid in Parliament.
He argued that the minister should have strongly defended Vinesh Phogat before the Paris Olympic Council, as she was qualified up to the semifinals and deserved a shot at the silver medal despite the weight issue in the finals.
He demanded an investigation into how such a significant oversight occurred, potentially costing Vinesh a gold medal.
Dr. Kumar questioned the lack of attention to detail and called for accountability to prevent future occurrences.
The Indian Olympic contingent included five wrestlers, four female and one male, with a support team of eight coaches and four assistants, totaling 17 members.
Addressing past criticism, Dr. Kumar noted that those who once called Vinesh a “bad coin” and mistreated her during protests at Jantar Mantar are now praising her achievements.
He lauded Vinesh for overcoming adversities and enhancing India’s honor on the global stage.
