39 Life-Term Prisoners to be Released in Jharkhand

CM Soren emphasizes reintegration and self-employment for released inmates

Jharkhand’s State Sentence Review Board approves the release of 39 life-term prisoners, focusing on their societal reintegration and livelihood support.

RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has approved the release of 39 life-term prisoners and directed officials to ensure their successful reintegration into society.

The decision was made during the 31st meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board, chaired by CM Soren.

Out of 74 cases reviewed, 39 prisoners were selected for release after thorough deliberations.

Chief Minister Soren stressed the importance of providing self-employment opportunities to the released prisoners.

"We must develop special action plans to generate income for their livelihood," stated CM Soren.

He suggested offering schematic benefits including dairy, poultry farming, and animal husbandry to the released inmates.

Officials were instructed to verify the family background, social, and economic status of the released prisoners.

The Chief Minister emphasized connecting the released individuals with skill development programs.

A robust plan is needed to prevent social and financial difficulties for the released prisoners, according to Soren.

The review process included inputs from district Superintendents of Police, Jail Superintendents, and Probation Officers.

CM Soren highlighted the importance of addressing the needs of elderly prisoners being released.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and Principal Secretary Vandana Dadel.

Director General of Jharkhand Police, Anurag Gupta, and Inspector General of Prisons, Sudarshan Prasad Mandal, were also present at the meeting.
