Tarapore School’s ‘No Books Day’ Sparks Hands-On Learning

Students engage in diverse vocational crafts and practical experiences across grade levels

Tarapore School’s ‘No Books Day’ offered students from Standards III to VIII a variety of hands-on learning experiences and vocational crafts.

JAMSHEDPUR – In an interesting development, students from Standards III to VIII were afforded practical learning opportunities and vocational craft experiences during Tarapore School’s dynamic ‘No Books Day’ on Friday, August 2 and the event evoked cheerful response from the students.

The event also offered students a diverse selection of activities that were specifically designed for their respective grade levels and it also provided them with valuable real-world skills and creative opportunities.

Students in Standard VI explored a variety of food preservation methods, such as freezing, simmering, dehydrating, pickling, and canning during this initiative.

They also engaged in an informative exam and acquired the skills necessary to prepare pickles with the assistance of their instructors.

These practical experiences offered valuable insights into the practices of food safety and sanitation.

According to information received, students in Standard VII were able to express their creativity by participating in advertising initiatives, creating marketing strategies, and designing logos for everyday products.

Additionally, the activity provided students with an opportunity to acquire fundamental marketing skills and gain insight into the advertising industry and test their abilities.

A field excursion to a Handloom Centre in Lupungdih Village offered a distinctive learning experience in weaving for Standard VIII.

School teachers said that the students observed the entire weaving process, from warping to selling, and interacted with expert artisans too that kept them engaged during the day.

Additionally, younger students participated in practical activities that were specifically designed for their age groups.

Apart from this, gift-wrapping was also the primary focus of Standard III, which was designed to improve precision and creativity.

In addition to acquiring the practical skill of changing light bulbs, Standard IV students engaged in the practice of narrative writing and narration and enjoyed the fare.

Standard V students of the school savoured the opportunity and also happily delved into the realm of sewing and embroidery, fostering the development of creativity, fine motor skills, and perseverance and were seen enjoying these activities too.

"Through these practical experiences, this innovative learning approach cultivates responsibility and creativity," said a a school teacher.

The ‘No Books Day’ initiative was not only unique in its approach but also effectively offered students enriching opportunities to cultivate valuable real-world skills outside of the traditional classroom setting and the students really seemed to have enjoyed it.
