BJP MLAs Stage Sit-in Over Unfulfilled Government Promises
Jharkhand BJP MLAs continue protest in assembly hall, demanding immediate answers from CM Soren on job promises and other issues, despite adjournment.
RANCHI – BJP legislators in Jharkhand staged a sit-in protest at the state assembly, refusing to leave even after the session was adjourned.
The opposition members’ demonstration began during Question Hour when BJP chief whip Biranchi Narayan sought answers from Chief Minister Hemant Soren regarding his promise of providing five lakh jobs to the youth.
Despite Soren’s assurance to address their concerns with proper statistics, the BJP MLAs remained unsatisfied and demanded immediate responses.
"We’re not leaving until the Chief Minister addresses our questions about job creation, unemployment allowances, and regularization of contractual workers," stated Leader of the Opposition Amar Bauri.
The protest escalated as BJP legislators moved to the well of the house, disrupting proceedings and leading to an adjournment by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto.
Later in the evening, Chief Minister Soren met with the protesting MLAs but explained he needed the speaker’s permission before answering their questions in the house.
Undeterred, the opposition members continued their sit-in, with some sharing videos on social media alleging that lights and air conditioning in the assembly hall had been turned off.
This dramatic stand-off occurs during the final session of the fifth Jharkhand assembly, with state elections looming later this year.
Earlier in the day, BJP members had also staged a demonstration outside the assembly, displaying a banner highlighting what they claim are unfulfilled government promises.
"The government has betrayed various groups, including women, youth, and para-teachers. When these issues are raised, the administration responds with force," alleged BJP chief whip Biranchi Narayan.
As the political tension mounts, all eyes are on how this impasse will be resolved and its potential impact on the upcoming state elections.
