Cattle Breeding Breakthrough in East Singhbhum

Sex-Sorted Semen Technique Yields 85% Female Calves

East Singhbhum’s Animal Husbandry Department reports remarkable success in its breed improvement program, boosting dairy prospects for local farmers.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Animal Husbandry Department’s innovative breed improvement initiative using sex-sorted semen has resulted in over 85% female calf births in East Singhbhum.

East Singhbhum’s dairy sector is experiencing a significant boost thanks to advanced breeding techniques.

The Animal Husbandry Department’s sex-sorted semen program has yielded impressive results, with over 100 cows giving birth to predominantly female calves.

"This technique is revolutionizing our local dairy industry," said Dr. Rajesh Patel, a veterinary expert involved in the program.

The initiative aims to increase the cow population and enhance milk production in the region.

Artificial insemination using sex-sorted semen was performed on approximately 900 animals, resulting in around 800 births.

The program offers a cost-effective solution for farmers, with a nominal fee of Rs 500 for insemination services.

"We provide a pregnancy guarantee and assure farmers of female offspring," explained a department spokesperson.

Farmers receive partial refunds if the insemination is unsuccessful or if a female calf is born, making the program financially attractive.

This innovative approach not only improves livestock quality but also promises to significantly boost milk production in East Singhbhum.
