Railway Dept Requests Halt on Unauthorized Development in Tatanagar

Assistant Divisional Engineer from Tata Nagar urges DC to stop unauthorized development in railway areas.

The Railway Department has requested the halt of any development activities in railway jurisdiction areas without proper authorization.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Railway Department has requested the halt of any development activities in railway jurisdiction areas without proper authorization.

In a letter dated July 9, the Assistant Divisional Engineer of Tata Nagar wrote to the District Commissioner (DC), urging that no development work funded by village heads or legislators should be allowed in railway areas without proper clearance.

The letter mentioned that works have been carried out in areas like Loco Railway Colony, South Settlement Colony, Kitadih Gadiwan Patti, and Imam Bada without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the railway authorities, violating railway standards.

Ongoing Dispute

Previously, various village heads, led by the District Chief Association, demanded the resumption of development works.

They have already discussed the issue with MPs, MLAs, and the DC, and have even approached the Director of the Panchayati Raj Department in Ranchi.

Despite these efforts, permission to restart development work has not been granted, leading the Chief Association to consider protest actions.

MLA’s Stand

Potka MLA Sanjeev Sardar emphasized that densely populated railway areas should not be deprived of basic amenities like water, electricity, and roads.

"Simply stopping development works by citing railway jurisdiction is not a solution," said Sardar. "The Railway Department should also think about how to address this issue. Development works used to happen in railway areas before, so they should continue now."

Sardar urged the Railway Department and district administration to find a concrete solution promptly.
