Jharkhand Schools Change Timings Due to Heatwave Alert

New Schedule Effective Immediately Until June 15, 2024

The Jharkhand Department of School Education and Literacy has issued a directive to change the timings of all schools in response to a heatwave alert.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Department of School Education and Literacy has announced a change in school timings for all government and non-government schools in the state due to a heatwave alert.

This directive, signed by Joint Secretary Nandkishore Lal, will be in effect until June 15, 2024.

The order mandates that classes from KG to Class 12 in all schools will now be conducted from 7 am to 11:30 am.

This change aims to safeguard students from the adverse effects of the heat.

Classes will resume their regular schedules after June 15, 2024.

Private schools are required to operate under the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and follow the management guidelines set by the concerned authorities.

Earlier, on May 15, the department had issued an order adjusting class timings due to weather changes.

According to the previous directive, classes from KG to Class VIII were scheduled from 7 am to 11:30 am, while classes from Class IX onwards were to be held from 7 am to 12 pm.

The new directive supersedes this schedule, aiming to ensure uniformity across all school categories, including government, non-government aided, unaided (including minority), and private schools.

The order highlights the necessity of this change due to varying timings reported from different districts.

All classes will revert to their pre-determined timings after the summer vacation.

Notably, classes for students up to Class VIII had been suspended since April 29 due to the severe heatwave, with a previous directive allowing schools to resume on May 13.
