Marandi Flags Demographic Shift, Seeks Voter List Probe in Santhal Pargana

Ex-CM Demands Technical Scrutiny of Rolls in Pakur, Sahibganj Seats

Key Points:

  • Marandi Cites Census Data on Tribal, Muslim Population Shifts
  • Demand Made for Probe Into 18 Santhal Pargana Assembly Seats
  • BJP Leader Seeks Matching of Old Khatian, Voter Records

PAKUR – Former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi raised concerns over alleged demographic changes and illegal infiltration in Santhal Pargana on Saturday.

He addressed a press conference at the Pakur circuit house. Several BJP leaders and workers were present at the event.

Marandi demanded a thorough technical examination of voter lists. This, he said, should cover 18 assembly seats across Santhal Pargana, including Pakur and Sahibganj.

Citing census data from 2001 and 2011, he claimed a decline in the tribal population percentage in Pakur. He also alleged a corresponding rise in the Muslim population over the same period.

Meanwhile, he pointed to the increase in voter numbers between 2019 and 2024 as another matter warranting scrutiny. Marandi said old khatian records, genealogies and earlier voter lists should be cross-matched during the roll revision process.

He argued this exercise was necessary to identify fake or suspicious names on the rolls. According to him, the issue concerns the region’s social structure and its local communities.

He therefore stressed that a fair and impartial investigation was essential. The BJP leader made these remarks during his visit to Pakur district.
