Innovative Vision Screening Initiative Launched by Yi in Jamshedpur
Young Indians introduce vision charts in schools to promote eye health awareness among students, starting with three schools.
JAMSHEDPUR – Young Indians (Yi) has launched an innovative eye health initiative in Jamshedpur, installing vision charts in schools to facilitate early detection of vision issues among children.
This child-to-child vision screening program began with Jusco School South Park, RMS School Khutadih, and Jamshedpur High School Bistupur, aiming to reach 200 schools across the region.
Students participate in screenings by reading from vision charts at a ten-foot distance, with difficulties noted for further examination, ensuring those in need receive follow-up care.
Led by Umang Agarwal of Yi Jamshedpur’s health vertical and supported by Dr. Vivek Kedia from Trinetram Eye Hospital, the program combines professional insight with community involvement for effective vision health promotion.
The initiative has been praised by educators like Principal Mili Sinha for enhancing learning through improved vision health and has stemmed from alarming findings in Yi’s 2023 eye check-up camps.
Key figures including Dr. Vivek Kedia and Yi members Umang Agarwal and Ankita Naredi, among others, were present at the initiative’s launch, marking a significant step towards safeguarding the visual health of Jamshedpur’s youth.
