Jamshedpur Achieves Top Rank in Swachh Survekshan 2023, Excelling in Cleanliness and Sanitation
Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee excels in Swachh Bharat rankings, secures top position in Jharkhand and 43rd in India.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to cleanliness and sanitation by securing top rankings in the Swachh Survekshan 2023.
This achievement under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan marks JNAC’s consistent performance, maintaining first place in Jharkhand’s cities of 1-10 lakh population category for the fifth time since 2019, and achieving 43rd position in its own category nationally.
Furthermore, JNAC ranks 78th among over 4500 cities in India.
In the 2023 survey, Jamshedpur Akshes garnered a remarkable 7042.4 points out of 9500, bolstered by its ODF++ and 3 Star certification.
The success is attributed to key initiatives like comprehensive solid waste collection and transportation, where segregated waste is collected door-to-door throughout the city.
Significant progress has been made in processing and disposal, particularly through three plants converting wet waste into compost and promoting home composting.
Sanitation efforts have been augmented with toilets being mapped on Google and regular cleaning, alongside awareness campaigns like Toilet 2.0.
JNAC’s innovative approaches also include various awareness programs like the Indian Swachhta League 2.0, RRR Campaign, and workshops on plastic ban and waste segregation.
Public engagement was furthered through wall paintings and cleanliness drives in schools, hotels, hospitals, and residential areas.
With 4800+ cities expected to participate in Swachh Survekshan 2024, themed around ‘RRR’, the achievements of Jamshedpur set a high benchmark.
This accomplishment was acknowledged by Vinay Kumar Choubey, Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, Jharkhand, and Amit Kumar, Director, State Urban Development Agency, who congratulated JNAC officials and employees.
Their success was celebrated at a high-profile event in New Delhi, attended by dignitaries like Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and President Draupadi Murmu, where Jamshedpur and Bundu received the Clean City Award.
This recognition underlines the concerted efforts of Jharkhand’s municipal bodies in elevating cleanliness standards across the state.
