Local Heroine Overcomes Challenges with Family Support to Shine in UPSC
Swati Sharma, originally from Jamshedpur and the daughter of a former defence personnel, has excelled in the UPSC’s Indian Administrative Service exam by securing the 17th position nationally.
JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur’s own Swati Sharma has achieved a remarkable 17th rank in the All India Ranking of the UPSC’s Indian Administrative Service examination, bringing honor to her hometown.
Swati, stunned by her own success, did not initially expect such a high ranking.
She has expressed profound gratitude towards her family, especially her father and her brother, Sanjeev Sharma of Tata Steel, for their continuous support.
Having moved frequently due to her father’s military assignments, Swati’s early education was geographically diverse.
She completed her schooling at Army Secondary School in Kolkata and later at Tagore Academy in Sakchi.
After obtaining an MA in Political Science from Jamshedpur Women’s College in 2019, she was encouraged by her teacher, Zakir Akhtar, to pursue a career in civil services.
Despite facing hurdles in her first two UPSC attempts, Swati relocated to Delhi for dedicated preparation, which ultimately led to her success on her final attempt.
She credits her success to learning from earlier mistakes, adopting effective study strategies, and maintaining a positive attitude.
Swati’s achievement has been celebrated by her family and has earned her congratulations from across the community.
