Tata Steel Recognized for Excellence in Coal Mining at Star Rating Awards

Tata Steel’s commitment to excellence in coal mining operations has been recognized with Five Star Rating Awards for its mines, including Jharia’s underground collieries and West Bokaro’s opencast mines.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has received prestigious Five Star Rating Awards for its remarkable performance in coal mining, highlighting the company’s dedication to operational excellence.

The company’s underground coal mines in Jharia and opencast mines in West Bokaro were honored at the Star Rating Award Ceremony 2023 in New Delhi on December 20, 2023.

The awards, presented by Hon`ble Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi, recognize Tata Steel’s exemplary achievements in the mining sector.

Sanjay Rajoria, General Manager of Jharia Division Tata Steel, along with other company officials, received the awards.

Notable achievements include Sijua Colliery’s consistent first-place wins, Jamadoba Colliery’s top rankings in recent years, and accolades for Digwadih and Bhelatand Amalgamated Collieries.

Quarry AB coal mine from West Bokaro Division secured the top spot in the opencast mining category for the year 2021-22.

D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Raw Materials at Tata Steel, expressed pride in the recognition, citing the company’s commitment to excellence and performance.

The Star Rating System evaluates coal mines across categories – Underground Mines (UG), Opencast Mines (OC), and Mixed Mines – on a comprehensive scale, with Five Star ratings indicating scores between 91% and 100%.

These awards signify a significant shift in India’s coal mining sector, promoting continuous improvement, efficiency, and adherence to the highest safety and environmental standards.
