Experts Discuss National Education Policy’s Role in India’s Future at Jamshedpur Seminar

Experts delve into the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizing its significance in shaping India’s educational landscape.

JAMSHEDPUR – Dr. Rejaul Karim Barbhuiya of NCERT, speaking at a seminar organized by Swarnarekha Kshetra Vikas Trust during the children’s fair, emphasized the importance of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He acknowledged the challenges in adapting to the policy’s innovative approach, stressing the need for both students and institutions to be prepared for the subject mix proposed.

Barbhuiya highlighted the critical task of discerning truth from falsehood in today’s world and how the NEP focuses on leveraging new technology.

NCERT recommends a one-year bridge course to facilitate a smooth transition into the new system, ensuring success for both students and institutions.

Dr. Sandhya Sinha provided historical context, tracing the evolution of India’s education system from Gurukul, through Maktab and Madrasa, to British Anglicisation, and finally the post-independence developments.

She discussed the formation of the UGC in 1948, the establishment of the Board of Secondary Education in 1952, the Kothari Commission of 1964, and the three-language formula.

Sinha noted significant milestones like the adoption of the National Education Policy in 1986, Operation Black Board, the Right to Education Act of 2009, and the launch of the NEP in 2020.

Dr. Manoj Kumar highlighted the NEP’s objectives of enhancing educational quality, fostering creativity, and positioning India as a knowledge superpower.

He pointed out the policy’s holistic approach and the mandate for state and central governments to allocate 6% of GDP to education.

Dr. Sanjay Guiyan remarked on India’s educational achievements over the past 75 years and the NEP’s role in reclaiming India’s historical educational glory.

He appreciated the policy’s flexibility and potential for adaptation.

Presiding over the seminar, MLA Saryu Roy projected that the NEP’s implementation could transform India in the next decade.

He reflected on societal changes and underscored the importance of the NEP in addressing contemporary challenges, including international conflicts.

Roy emphasized the crucial role of the NEP in combating ‘demonic forces’ and advancing India’s progress.
