District Administration to Add 1.07 Lakh Voters to List Ahead of 2024 Elections

The district administration is set to update the voter list with around 1.07 lakh new entries, with a significant number from the urban constituencies of Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West.

JAMSHEDPUR – According to Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, the district administration is gearing up to add nearly 1.07 lakh names to the voter list.

The majority of these new additions will hail from the urban Assembly Constituencies of Jamshedpur East and West, along with the nearby Constituency of Jugsalai.

In the Jugsalai assembly seat, the average number of voters per booth stands at 44, while in Jamshedpur West and East, it is 109 and 90-95 voters respectively.

DC Jadhav appealed to the district’s voters to assist in the voter list verification process by providing accurate information to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the house-to-house survey.

A special brief revision of the voter list for 2024 was held at Sidgoda’s Town Hall under the aegis of Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer, K. Ravi Kumar.

The workshop focused on how to increase voter participation in urban areas and aimed to orient all the BLOs.

Kumar advised the BLOs to ensure the inclusion of every voter above the age of 18 in the voter list and encouraged careful compilation of the list for the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections scheduled for 2024.

With nearly 22 lakh voter names yet to be included, the Chief Electoral Officer emphasized the crucial role of the 29,500 BLOs operating statewide. He urged them to check the voting rates of their respective polling places, particularly in urban areas with traditionally low voter turnout.

The district election officer stated that the special short revision programme of voter lists commenced on June 1, 2023, and door-to-door verification will be carried out between July 21 and August 21.

On this occasion, the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand, the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Development Commissioner, and SDM Dhalbhum flagged off a voter awareness chariot and released balloons.
