Discounts for Voters: Jamshedpur’s New Strategy to Increase Turnout

In an innovative move, Jamshedpur officials propose shopping discounts for voters to encourage higher turnout in urban areas.

JAMSHEDPUR – Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar has introduced a unique approach to improve voter participation in urban locales, by offering shopping discounts to individuals displaying their voting marks.

The strategy received unanimous support from various business sectors during a meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium in Jamshedpur.

This meeting, which brought together stakeholders from hotels, restaurants, malls, and coaching centers, focused on strategies to boost voter engagement for the upcoming Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency election on May 25.

Manish Kumar emphasized the need for businesses to play a crucial role in voter awareness, suggesting the inclusion of voter awareness stickers in food parcels and the establishment of selfie points to promote voting.

Furthermore, coaching centers are encouraged to motivate young adults to register to vote, with a deadline set for April 15.

The proposal to offer discounts to voters showing their voting ink has been lauded as a significant step towards increasing voter turnout, with over 50 representatives from various businesses pledging their support.

Participants of the meeting were also encouraged to take the Voter’s Oath and aim to bring at least 10 additional people to the polls.

With the backing of key local figures including the JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner and District Sports Officer, the initiative aims to foster a stronger democratic engagement among citizens, highlighting the collective effort required for a successful democracy.
