Jamshedpur: In a move that defies the notion of Ram Navami being a male-dominated festival, the women of Jamshedpur have formed an all-women akhara in CH Area, Sonari. This akhara is a 5-year-old initiative that is gaining popularity with time.
The Ram Janki Akhara in Jamshedpur’s Sonari CH Area is well-known for having all of its members as women, with the exception of the pujari.

The women members carry out the ritualistic worship of Lord Shri Ram and Hanuman and even carry out the Akhada in the conventional manner.
The Ram Navami Pujan event was attended by the state’s Health Minister, Banna Gupta, who described the experience as a blessing.
He said that without the strength of women and their participation in all walks of life, any community can not achieve progress.
He said that women’s empowerment is essential to the world’s structure and that gatherings like these increase strength to the community.

The Akhara Committee’s president, Usha Singh, said that this event represents a step away from the patriarchal mindset that has now taken over the society.
She said that it is good that men are stepping in to encourage gender equality, in addition to women gaining full support.

Nevertheless, the presence of women in the Jamshedpur Ram Navami event is a positive development. It only underlines the importance that the Hindu community has always given to its women, who have always been at the forefront of the community affairs in all ages.
The inclusion of women in Jamshedpur’s Ram Navami celebration is a step towards eradicating gender stereotypes.
