Yuva Jamshedpur Holds Cross-Learning Visit for Women at Mahila Thana and Civil Surgeon Office

Initiative by YUVA and Women Gaining Ground Consortium Focuses on Empowering Women Against Gender-Based Violence

A cross-learning visit cum interface meeting was organized by the social organization Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA) and Women Gaining Ground Consortium, bringing together officials from the Mahila Thana Sakchi Jamshedpur and Civil Surgeon Hospital, East Singhbhum, with girls, women, disabled girls, and women panchayat representatives from Block Potka.

JAMSHEDPUR – Varnali Chakravati, Secretary of YUVA, explained the objectives of the Women Gaining Ground program being implemented in the Potka area, emphasizing the need to strengthen the political participation of women against gender-based violence and advocate against violence at every level.

During the visit, girls and women sought detailed information on how they can obtain legal assistance and justice against the violence and exploitation they face.

Mahila Thana: A Safe Space for Women to Report Violence

Manjushree Kunkal, Sub Inspector at Mahila Thana, highlighted that only women are appointed as in-charge at the Mahila Thana to ensure that any aggrieved woman can report her problem without hesitation and receive prompt assistance.

She explained that complaints related to domestic violence, marriage fraud, rape, sexual exploitation, digital violence, and workplace violence can be registered at the Mahila Thana.

Kunkal encouraged women not to hesitate in approaching the police station and to raise their voices against violence collectively, contributing to the creation of a violence-free society.

Disability Cell Provides Information on Certificates and Schemes

Manoj Kumar Tiwari, an officer from the Disability Cell of Civil Surgeon Hospital, provided information about the process of obtaining certificates for disabled persons to avail disability-related facilities.

He urged the participants to actively engage in connecting disabled individuals in their communities with relevant schemes and pensions.

The program was attended by Varnali Chakraborty, Secretary of YUVA, Anjali Bose, Secretary of the Women Welfare Committee, and Sushmita Bose, Co-Secretary of the Women Welfare Committee. Youth members played a vital role in ensuring the success of the program.

The cross-learning visit and interface meeting aimed to empower women and girls by providing them with information on legal recourse against violence and exploitation, as well as to promote the inclusion of disabled individuals in various schemes and facilities.

Initiatives like these play a crucial role in fostering a society where women can voice their concerns without fear and receive the necessary support to combat gender-based violence.
