CBI registers case in Uttam Anand death case, probe begins

Ranchi: In an important development in the Dhanbad Judge Uttam Anand death case, the CBI has registered a case and would soon start its investigations.

The Jharkhand government had on August 1 recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter.

The CBI has now registered an FIR after the notification was issued by the Center on the recommendation of the state government.

On August 3, the Jharkhand High Court had also ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter.

Before this, the investigation of the case was being done by the SIT constituted by the Jharkhand Police.

It may be recalled that on July 28, Dhanbad Additional District and Sessions Judge VIII Uttam Anand was hit by an auto rickshaw from behind when he was on his morning walk.

A few hours after the incident, when the CCTV footage of the incident came to light, it became evident that the Judge Uttam Anand, who was walking on the left side of the road, was deliberately hit from behind by the auto.

He fell on the side of the road and after hitting him the auto proceeded without stopping.

On the second day, the police had seized the auto that hit ADJ from Giridih. The police had also arrested the auto driver L Verma and his accomplice. Both are being interrogated.

The wife of ADJ had lodged an FIR in the police station calling the Judge’s death a deliberate murder.

ADJ’s father also told the media that he was hit on the head with a rod-like object.

It was also found in the post-mortem that the death of ADJ was due to a head injury.

There were three external and seven internal injuries on those bodies. It was said in the post-mortem that several bones of his jaw were also broken.

The Supreme Court has also taken cognisance of the case.

The matter was also heard in the Jharkhand High Court on last Thursday. The High Court had also summoned the DGP of Jharkhand and the SP of Dhanbad in this matter.

Dhanbad police have arrested the auto driver L Verma and his associate R Verma in the judge’s death case and sought permission to conduct brain mapping test.

With the consent of the accused, the court approved the brain mapping test.

The CJM asked both the accused to know their stand. Both were informed about the brain mapping test.

The accused agreed to get the brain mapping done before the court.
