Harpal Singh Thapar & wife, 2 others arrested from MP in POCSO Act case

All accused of Mother Teresa Welfare Trust, Kharangajhar POCSO Act case brought to city on transit remand, sent to judicial custody

Jamshedpur: In a major development, the city police have succeeded in arresting Harpal Singh Thapar, his wife Pushpa Rani Tirkey, Geeta Kaur and Aditya Singh in connection with the sexual exploitation and assault case registered by Telco police on June 6 last. The four accused were arrested from Mada in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, brought to Jamshedpur and produced before the court. All four have been sent to judicial custody.

The FIR registered by the police has named 5 persons, Harpal Singh, his wife Pushpa Rani Tirkey, Geeta Kaur, Aditya Singh and Tony David as the accused.

Harpal Singh Thapar and 3 other accused of Kharangajhar POCSO Act case have been arrested from Singrauli in MP. All were sent to judicial custody.

Acting on a tip-off a team of officers led by ASP (City) was formed by the SSP of Jamshedpur. The team went to Madhya Pradesh and arrested the four accused who have been absconding since after the case was registered against them.

The city police team has taken them on transit remand and brought them to Jamshedpur. They have been presented before the district court.

According to city police, a case was registered on the basis of the statement made by a minor female inmate of Mother Teresa Welfare Trust, Kharangajhar against five persons for sexual exploitation and assault on June 6, 2021. The case no. 94/21 of Telco police station was registered under sections 354, 354(d), 323 and 34 of IPC as well as POCSO Act.

Soon after the case came to limelight, the accused went into hiding and were absconding.

The SSP had formed a team for their arrest. The team, acting on a tip off, raided their hideout in Mada and arrested them from there and brought them over to Jamshedpur.

Serious charges of sexual misconduct and exploitation were made by the minor inmates of the Trust against the director Harpal Singh and his wife Pushpa Rani Tirkey.

The district administration has now shifted all the inmates of the Trust to Gobarghusi in Patamda for their safety.

The City SP Subhash Chandra Jat said that there is ample evidence against the four accused.
