Cracks surface within farmer unions, Feb 1 Parliament March withdrawn

New Delhi: Cracks have appeared within the conglomerate of farmers in the wake of Republic Day chaos created in the national capital even as the farmer unions have announced their decision to call off the Parliament March on February 1.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, a joint front of several farmer unions opposing the farm laws, has announced its decision to withdraw the march to Parliament House on February 1.

Earlier, two farm unions, BKU (Bhanu) and Rashtriya Mazdoor Sangathan withdrew from the protest at the borders of Delhi.

The KKU leader Darshan Pal said: “We have cancelled our plan for a march to Parliament on Budget day on Feb 1. However, our agitation will continue and on January 30, we will hold public meetings as well as hunger strikes across the country.”

The Morcha has blamed the entire violence on Republic Day ‘a conspiracy hatched with KMSC and others…’ to break the agitation. It also said that Deep Sidhu was an ‘agent’ of the government and said that the it was he who was behind the hoisting of Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort.

Surprisingly, the BKU (Tikait) chief Rakesh Tikait asked why the police did not fire at the protestors who unfurled the flag and caused vandalism inside Red Fort.

Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav meekly said that he was taking ‘moral responsibility’ for the ‘sad events’ as it had given the call for the rally. His organisation blamed Morcha, Satnam Singh Pannu of KMSC and said that it had no role in Red Fort incident.

And even while there has been some setback to the farmers’ agitation against the farm laws after the Red Fort incident, the attempt to create unrest and fissures within India in different forms still continues.
