Dist Admn disallows street shops in Mangla Hat at Sakchi Market

Jamshedpur: The district administration disallowed vending on streets on Tuesday in Sakchi market. The decision has hit the street vendors hard, who set up their shops on the streets in Sakchi Market on Tuesday. The market on Tuesday is called Mangla Hat.

Makar Sankranti is the biggest festival of Jharkhand. Tribals as well as other communities celebrate Makar Sankranti as Tusu Parv too. The festival also brings an occasion for big shopping in the state.

This is a time when street vendors do good business. Being price-conscious, most of the people buy from street vendors.

However, there has been a tussle on between the district administration and the street vendors. The street vendors have been insisting on setting up shops on Tuesday in Sakchi market itself.

However, the district administration, in view of the coronavirus safety measures and crowding in Mangal Hat, has banned Mangla Hat on the streets of Sakchi and has even deployed a magistrate there.

Anticipating good business on Makar Sankranti, a number of vendors had reached Sakchi Market to set up shops. However, they had to return as the district administration did not allow them to set up shop.

The district administration says that the shopkeepers have been given permission to set up shop in Ambagan Ground. However, the vendors are insisting that they be allowed to set up shop only in Sakchi Market and the nearby areas.
