JNAC raids 25 shops selling tobacco-based products, 15 arrested, FIR and penalty too

Jamshedpur: JNAC and city police today raided several shops selling Gutkhas, cigarettes, betel, tobacco and other banned items. Several shopkeepers were rounded up and JNAC officials said that FIR would be registered against such shopkeepers and they will also be fined for violating provisions.

The raids were made in 25 shops in Sakchi Police Station area, Jubilee Park Round About, Bengal Club Area, Jail Chowk Area, Kashidih Mohammedan Line area, Ramleela Maidan Area and Sakchi Golchakaar area.

A large amount of tobacco based products were seized. 15 shopkeepers were also arrested and fined. FIRs are being registered against them.

According to JNAC communique, those who were arrested include Sanju Paswan, Rajesh Gupta, Jamshad Khan, Wahid Imtiyaz, Suraj Kumar, Sandeep Prasad, Chadnrajit Nandu, Faiz Ahmad, Shibu Poddar, Md Kalam, Jitendra Kumar Singh, Kamlesh Kumar Gupta, Raj Kumar, Shaukat Ali Ansari and Ravindra Singh.

Corona is spreading very fast in the city. Even in the state the number of infections has crossed 23,000. Keeping this in mind, the state government has started taking action against the shops which are still selling banned tobacco based products. Such products have been completely banned in the state keeping the Corona pandemic in mind.

JNAC officials raided several shops and seized Gurkhas and cigarettes.

The JNAC City Chief Ravi Kumar said that these shopkeepers were not abiding by the instructions despite warnings. Therefore, action was taken and banned items were seized. FIR would be registered and fines would also be imposed.

He said that such actions would continue even in future.
