Tata Steel Expands Tube Production, New Dia Mill Inaugurated at Dhanbad

New mill boosts Tata Steel’s capacity, supports infrastructure growth

Tata Steel’s Tubes division inaugurates new mill in Dhanbad, enhancing production and meeting construction demands.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a significant move to boost its production capabilities, Tata Steel’s Tubes Strategic Business Unit (SBU) has inaugurated a new Large Diameter (LDP) Mill in Dhanbad.

This expansion comes as part of the company’s aggressive strategy to scale up its manufacturing output. The facility, developed in collaboration with Shiv Shambhu Commercial Pvt Ltd, is designed to enhance the company’s product range significantly.

With the inauguration of this mill, the Tubes division has effectively increased its annual capacity by approximately 172 thousand tonnes per annum (KTPA) for the fiscal year 2024. This development is a testament to Tata Steel’s commitment to addressing the growing demands in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

This new facility is the third of its kind in the eastern region, indicating Tata Steel’s focus on strategic geographical expansion to better serve market needs. The mill’s product range, with sizes varying from 20X20 to 220X220 mm, is expected to cater to a broad spectrum of construction and infrastructure projects.

At the helm of this strategic expansion is Sanjay S Sahni, Executive-In-Charge of the Tubes division, who officiated the inauguration on March 10, 2024. This initiative not only marks a milestone for Tata Steel but also strengthens its partnership with existing Tube Manufacturing Partners (TMPs) across the country.

In line with its ambitious growth trajectory, Tata Steel plans to escalate its Tubes division’s production capacity from the current 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MnTPA) to 2 MnTPA within the next two years.

A significant portion of this growth is anticipated to come through the development of TMPs at strategic locations throughout India, showcasing Tata Steel’s commitment to innovation and growth in the steel manufacturing industry.

The addition of the new LDP Mill in Dhanbad is a critical step towards realizing this vision, highlighting Tata Steel’s forward-thinking approach in strengthening its manufacturing capabilities across India.
