KHARSAWAN – Union Minister Arjun Munda solemnly paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1948 Kharsawan firing incident on Monday.
The tribute took place in Kharsawan, marking a poignant remembrance of the tragedy.
On January 1, 1948, a critical meeting led by Jaipal Singh Munda demanded the merger of the Seraikela-Kharsawan princely state from Orissa to Bihar.
During this meeting, the Orissa Police opened fire on the protesters, resulting in numerous casualties.
The exact number of those martyred remains unconfirmed to this day.
Munda’s homage was part of the annual Martyr’s Day, a day of collective remembrance and condolence.
The event drew attendance from various dignitaries, including Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth.
Prominent figures such as former minister Badkunwar Gagrai, ex-MLA Laxman Tudu, and others like Mangal Singh Soy and Meera Munda were also present.
The gathering served as a testament to the enduring legacy of those who lost their lives in the pursuit of their cause.
