Police Seize 7.8 Kg Cannabis, Rolled Cigarettes and Cash in MGM Area Raids

JAMSHEDPUR – Two men, one of them known locally as a sadhu, have been arrested in a cannabis trafficking case built on raids in the MGM police station area.
Nearly 7.8 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from the pair. Cigarettes stuffed with the drug were also seized.
The haul further included cash and packing material. An electronic weighing machine and mobile phones were taken as well.
Moreover, both men have been booked under the NDPS Act. They have since been sent to jail.
The operation began with a tip-off received by the senior superintendent of police. It pointed to a kiosk near the Kali temple at Simuldanga.
A special team then raided the spot. Roshan Kumar was arrested during the action.
Officers recovered 130 grams of cannabis from him. Sixty ready-made cigarettes filled with the drug were also found.
Besides, packing material and an electronic weighing machine were seized. Sale proceeds of Rs 3,060 were recovered from the kiosk.
Kumar was questioned soon after the arrest. He named his supplier during the interrogation.
The supplier was identified as Shambhu Mahto, also called Sadhu. He lives in Joba village under the Bodam police station area.
Kumar said he bought stock two to three times every week. He then sold the consignments across the city, according to him.
Police raided Mahto’s house on the strength of that disclosure. The search yielded 7.67 kilograms of cannabis.
In addition, seeds of the plant were recovered from the premises. Cash of Rs 5,840 was seized alongside.
“The chain ran from a village supplier to a roadside kiosk,” said Shubham Khandelwal. He is the rural superintendent of police in Jamshedpur.
However, the record of one accused has drawn attention. Kumar had been jailed in an NDPS case in 2023.
The investigation into the network is continuing. Police have not ruled out further arrests.
The district has seen repeated action against narcotics this year. A smuggler was held at Jadugoda with cannabis seized in July.
Meanwhile, a brown sugar crackdown in June led to two arrests. Another peddler was picked up in Mango under Operation Prahar.
Police have also sought public help on the issue. They invited suggestions on the rising drug trade earlier this month.
On the other hand, awareness work has run in parallel. A de-addiction campaign concluded in the city in June.
Neighbouring areas have reported similar cases. A Seraikela arrest followed a recovery at Amda the same month.
Railway routes have featured too. A Tatanagar station seizure in May brought in five kilograms of the drug.
