RAMGARH – Panic gripped Ramgarh district in Jharkhand after the district court received a threat that it would be blown up with a bomb. The alarming message was sent in Bengali to the official email address of the district’s superintendent of police.
Police and the district administration swung into action as soon as the threatening email surfaced. Meanwhile, security around the court complex was tightened immediately after the alert was received.
A bomb disposal squad, dog squad and a special police team carried out an intensive search operation across the court premises and the surrounding area. Visitors entering and leaving the court complex were subjected to thorough checks in view of the heightened security. Suspicious activity in the vicinity is also being closely monitored.
Police officials said the threatening email is being examined with the help of cyber experts. Efforts have been stepped up to determine the location from which the email was sent and to identify those behind it. However, investigating agencies say they are considering every angle as the probe continues.
The administration has appealed to residents not to pay heed to rumors and to immediately inform police if they notice any suspicious object or individual. At present, security agencies remain on high alert, and protective measures have been strengthened at sensitive locations across the district, including the court complex.
Besides Ramgarh, threats against judicial and government buildings have periodically surfaced in other parts of Ranchi division in the past, prompting similar security responses from district police. Moreover, past cyber threat cases in the state have often required coordination between local police and specialized digital forensic teams to trace the source of such messages.
