Sriya Bauri Dies on the Spot in Amba Village; Dinu Das Referred to Siuri Hospital

JAMTARA — A 13-year-old girl was killed and a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured when lightning struck near a mango tree in Amba village under Kundahit block of Jamtara district on Tuesday afternoon, during a spell of wind, rain, and thunderstorm.
Around 2 pm on Tuesday, five children from Amba village had gone to pick mangoes from a nearby orchard amid light rain. Lightning suddenly struck close to a mango tree where the children had gathered. Sriya Bauri, aged 13, daughter of Jalandhar Bauri, died on the spot. Dinu Das, aged 16, son of Arjun Das, sustained serious burn injuries in the same strike.
Villagers rushed both to the Community Health Centre at Kundahit, where doctors declared Sriya dead on arrival. Dinu Das, whose condition was critical, was referred to Siuri Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
On receiving news of the tragedy, Kundahit police station in-charge Pradeep Kumar arrived at the hospital with a police contingent. Revenue Inspector Arun Kumar Yadav and halka employee Sandeep Soren also reached the spot to assess the situation. Amba panchayat head Dulu Singh Tudu visited the hospital, met the bereaved family, and assured them of all possible assistance.
Administrative officials informed the family about the government compensation and relief available under the Disaster Management department and urged them to prepare the necessary documents. Until the time of filing this report, the family had not agreed to a post-mortem examination. Officials were making efforts to explain the legal requirements to them.
Residents of Amba village demanded that the administration release financial aid to the affected family at the earliest. Lightning fatalities are a recurring hazard in Jharkhand during the pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons, with the state recording some of the highest lightning-related deaths in India every year.
