Unions Resolve to Intensify Protest Against Labor Codes

JAMSHEDPUR – AITUC’s Kolhan divisional committee met in Sakchi to review the February 12 general strike and resolve to intensify protests against the four labor codes.
The meeting was held at the office in Sakchi Aam Bagan. It was chaired by Kolhan president Om Prakash Singh.
Kolhan general secretary Ambuj Thakur presented the divisional report. Moreover, he declared the February 12 strike fully successful.
He said affiliated unions mobilized hundreds of workers. Meanwhile, he stated that publicity campaigns ensured participation.
He said the strike was coordinated with CITU. However, he claimed unions in major industrial houses remained absent.
President Om Prakash Singh addressed the gathering. He said NH-33 was blocked for hours in Chakulia.
He added that HCL workers demonstrated in Ghatshila. Moreover, employees wore black badges opposing labor laws.
In Rakha N Mines, Vikram Kumar led the protest. He said the strike was organized effectively.
Singh explained provisions of the four labor codes. He alleged these rules enable worker exploitation.
The state secretary of the All India PNB Bank Employees Association spoke. He said most public sector banks remained closed.
He claimed only SBI branches functioned in Kolhan. Moreover, the Bistupur SBI main branch gate was blocked.
He said bank employees would continue opposing the labor codes. Meanwhile, leaders reviewed future action plans.
Representatives from several unions attended the meeting. These included Cement Workers Union and Tata Power Mazdoor Union.
Tata Blue Scope Mazdoor Union also participated. Earlier, Blue Scope protest highlighted similar demands.
Jamshedpur Mazdoor Union and NMDC Mines Workers Union joined. United Mineral Workers Union and Khet Mazdoor Union attended.
Leaders resolved to intensify agitation against labor codes. Moreover, they pledged coordinated struggle in coming days.
The house decided to file annual returns for 2025. It fixed early March for levy and membership renewal.
Several leaders expressed views during deliberations. Among them were R S Rai, Lado Jonko and N M Paul.
The meeting also resolved to observe Kedaar Das Memorial Day. It will be marked on February 19 with tributes.
Similar labor discussions have occurred earlier in Jamshedpur. A recent AITUC strike call preceded the February 12 action.
