Let teaching not be confined to limits of campuses

It’s almost 21 years of Jharkhand as a state now. But we still get news of children being trafficked from here in large numbers. Let us all be teachers for vulnerable children.

standpoint

Teaching is not an act that should be restricted to classrooms only, between teacher and students within the boundaries of schools & Colleges.

Each member of society has the responsibility of teaching children about the intricacies of life. Well, of course, the school curriculum can be left to the teachers but what about a general awareness about good and bad, soft skills and moral values?

We need those chachas, tau, masi back in our lives who use to teach & preach every time you meet them or even cross their path. We need community vigilance back in our ways that used to play a vital part in community building.

Apart from this, sharing knowledge with the needy is the best contribution one can offer to society. Instead of looking for formal engagements as a teacher in any organisation, one can always offer education to the underprivileged at their own convenience.

Why wait for an NGO or a corporate if you have the capacity to bring a change ourselves?

There are n-number of issues around us that demand attention and community support. Child trafficking is one of them. We need community teaching to eradicate this problem from society, especially in Jharkhand.

It’s almost 21 years of Jharkhand as the state now but we still get news of child trafficking from here in large numbers. Age and gender do not make much difference in such acts.

The adolescent girls, young boys, man/ women in 30s, all are worth trafficking to the human smugglers as they can be good and cheap domestic helpers, bonded farmers, factory labourers, and industry human resource.

Each time a government changes in the state, new promises of reformation and betterment are made but nothing changes really.

The girls of rural and interior tribal areas are lured in the name of money, marriage and better life.

On the other hand, boys are promised of better education and a good job. But they hardly get anything.

In such a scenario, if we can teach these people about such frauds and make them aware of Helplines, how good it would be.

One can visit these areas, perform nukkkad natak, puppetry, storytelling to make them aware of such perpetrators. It may seem difficult but actually, it is not.

It’s our hesitation and reluctance that stops us to act for these causes. If we can overcome them and act for the cause nothing can be better.

So let’s break the walls that restrict knowledge to stay on campus. Let teaching be everyone’s act.

Let everyone be a teacher of one another.

Happy Teachers’ Day to everyone.
