Hundreds of workers launched an agitation for better facilities. They said they won’t relent until the management speaks to them and resolves their issues.
Jamshedpur: Hundreds of contract workers of different vendors of Processing and Sales yard at Marine Drive started an agitation in front of yard gate on Monday in support of their demands.
The workers led by Samir Sardar sat on a dharna near the yard gate. They were saying that the agitation would continue till the company management talks with them to resolve their issues.
The contract workers said that their gate pass bears the name Tata. However, they said, all the five contractors pay their wages twice in a month i.e. on 8th and 25th.
They said that when they ask for payment slip, PF, ESI and monthly payment, they are sacked.
They alleged that since their issues are not being heard, they have been forced to take to streets.
They also alleged that the contractors are paying wages less than the government prescribed rate.
They also said that they are not getting PF and ESI facilities and after falling sick have to depend on MGMCH.
They said that no worker has been issued ESI card yet.
They said that if their issues are not resolved they would be forced to complain to the Chief Minister.
