JAMSHEDPUR – Saryu Roy, the MLA for Jamshedpur West, met Urban Development Department Secretary Sunil Kumar on Monday in Ranchi to discuss pressing issues in the Mango Municipal Corporation. He also engaged with M.R. Meena, Secretary of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, to address water supply challenges.

Waste Management Woes in Mango

Roy pointed out persistent issues in waste disposal since 2011-12, citing the lack of proper systems in Mango compared to JNAC. He expressed concerns over discrimination, as JNAC’s waste is disposed of at Tata Steel UISL’s Bara Complex, but Mango’s waste is not. He emphasized the need for equitable solutions and proposed the installation of waste processing machinery to resolve the issue permanently. Urban Development officials assured a review and necessary directives to local authorities.

Urgent Need for Office Infrastructure

Highlighting the lack of a dedicated office for Mango Municipal Corporation, Roy stated that the existing setup at Gandhi Smriti Bhawan is insufficient. He proposed establishing a proper office to accommodate elected representatives after municipal elections. The Secretary of Urban Development agreed to expedite site selection and construction.

Water Supply Challenges

Addressing the erratic water supply, Roy raised concerns over damaged motors at the Mango water supply project. He advocated for the urgent procurement of high-capacity motors and repairs to ensure adequate supply to six designated zones. Officials pledged to resolve administrative and technical hurdles, with a decision expected by January 3, 2025.

Additional Concerns Raised

Roy also discussed the delays in water supply to MGM Hospital, suggesting temporary use of Tata Steel’s pipeline from Dimna Lake. For Jamshedpur’s urban settlements, he recommended free water connections under BPL guidelines, aligning with municipal directives.

Roy affirmed his commitment to ensuring the implementation of promises made during the discussions. He plans to revisit the secretaries next week to assess progress on waste disposal, water supply upgrades, and administrative improvements.
