RANCHI – After the huge and impressive electoral win, it is time to form a new government in Jharkhand for the Hemant Soren led alliance. Today, the first steps have been taken by the winning alliance leader Hemant Soren.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday to stake claim to form the government in Jharkhand.

Soren is scheduled to take the oath as Chief Minister on November 28.

Earlier in the day, leaders of the INDIA alliance unanimously elected Soren as the leader of the legislative party.

Prior to meeting the Governor, Soren resigned from the Chief Minister’s post but will continue as the caretaker CM until the swearing-in ceremony.

After his meeting with Governor Gangwar, Soren stated, "I have staked claim to form the government and submitted the support letter from alliance partners to the Governor. He has invited us to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on November 28."

Soren arrived at Raj Bhavan in his car and mentioned that the Governor has asked him to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister.

This will be Soren’s fourth term as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, which was formed on November 15, 2000.

Earlier in the day, alliance leaders and legislators met at Soren’s residence, where he was unanimously chosen as the leader of the alliance.

The meeting was attended by legislators from alliance partners, including Congress’s Jharkhand in-charge and party general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir and senior leader Rajesh Thakur.

The JMM-led alliance achieved a significant victory in the recent elections, securing 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led NDA managed to win only 24 seats.

A majority in the assembly requires 41 seats.

Soren retained the Barhait seat by defeating BJP’s Gamaliel Hembram with a margin of 39,791 votes, securing 95,612 votes against Hembram’s 55,821.
