KODERMA – Police in Koderma arrested a man accused of snatching a gold chain from a woman, acting within six hours of the incident on Tuesday.
The woman was returning home with her son when a snatcher riding a motorcycle approached her. He suddenly grabbed the gold chain from around her neck before fleeing the spot.
Panic spread in the locality following the incident. The victim immediately alerted the police about the snatching.
Officers swung into action as soon as the information reached them. They began examining footage from CCTV cameras installed near the scene of the crime.
The footage reportedly showed the suspect’s movements clearly. Police used the visuals to identify him and then raided his likely hideouts.
Following a sustained operation, officers arrested the accused within six hours of the snatching. They also recovered the stolen gold chain from his possession.
Investigators are now questioning the accused about his criminal history. They are also probing his possible involvement in similar incidents in the past.
Local residents praised the police for their swift response to the case. Chain-snatching cases have triggered swift police action elsewhere in the state in recent weeks as well.
Officers said the crackdown against criminals in the district would continue without let-up. They added that strict action would be taken against anyone disrupting law and order in the area.
The arrest comes weeks after a similar chain-snatching case was solved in Kadma, where two criminals and a jewellery shopkeeper were arrested. Police across the state have increasingly relied on CCTV footage to solve such cases, as seen in a jewellery theft case in Ulidih that was also captured on camera.
The Koderma district has reported other crime cases in recent weeks. Among them was a case in which a grandmother was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of her six-year-old grandson.
