JAMSHEDPUR – Trade unions held a daylong protest at Tata Power Gate demanding an end to worker exploitation and announcing a statewide strike on February 12.

The Joint Forum of Trade Unions, Jharkhand organized the demonstration on Tuesday. Various union officials and a large number of workers participated. The protest at Tata Power Gate highlighted worker grievances.

Trade union leader Ambuj Thakur addressed the gathering. He alleged severe exploitation of workers in current times. Moreover, he said many institutions deny timely wages to laborers.

“Workers are not receiving proper remuneration on time,” Thakur stated. “They are also being denied payment slips by employers.”

He further alleged that demanding payment slips invites termination. Such actions are completely illegal and unjust, he added. Furthermore, this violates basic labor rights of workers.

Thakur announced that all Jharkhand trade unions will unite on February 12. They will observe a one-day statewide strike together. The strike aims to protect workers’ rights and address their demands.

Workers will send a clear message to the government, he said. The labor unions are demanding immediate resolution of pending issues. In addition, they seek proper implementation of labor laws.

Speakers at the protest rally warned of intensifying their movement. They said agitation will escalate if issues remain unresolved. However, the demonstration remained peaceful throughout Tuesday.

Deep anger was visible among workers over their rights. The trade union leaders vowed to continue their struggle. They demanded that management and government address worker concerns immediately.
