Tribal Body Demands Swift Implementation of PESA Act in Jharkhand

Adivasi Suraksha Parishad Plans Public Meetings to Rally Support

The 28-year delay in implementing PESA Act rules has prompted tribal leaders to intensify their campaign for self-governance rights in scheduled areas.

Key Points:

  • High Court sets two-month deadline for PESA Act implementation
  • Tribal Security Council expands leadership for stronger advocacy
  • Public meetings scheduled in Rajnagar and Salgajudi

JAMSHEDPUR – Tribal leaders demanded immediate implementation of the PESA Act 1996 during a Circuit House press conference.

The Adivasi Suraksha Parishad highlighted legal concerns. The Act’s rules remain unformulated after 28 years.

Meanwhile, both High Court and Supreme Court have issued directives. They mandated implementation within two months.

Legal Mandate

The PESA Act focuses on tribal self-governance. States must establish implementation rules within one year.

However, Jharkhand has faced significant delays. Legal complications have hindered progress.

Leadership Expansion

The Parishad announced its strengthened leadership structure. New office-bearers will lead the movement.

Meanwhile, the Jamshedpur Metropolitan Committee takes shape. It will coordinate local advocacy efforts.

Upcoming Activities

Public meetings will mobilize community support. Rajnagar hosts the first gathering on February 4.

“This movement requires united effort,” stated a tribal leader. “Our rights cannot wait longer.”
