WEST SINGHBHUM – In a continued effort against illegal opium farming, West Singhbhum police have destroyed 13 acres of opium cultivation across the district. The operation, part of an ongoing campaign for over a month, included proactive awareness drives among local residents.

Locations Targeted in the Operation

The campaign focused on areas within the Badgaon police jurisdiction, particularly Karu and Birda, where 7 acres of illegal opium farming were destroyed. Police also conducted awareness programs in Heshalkuti, Kudahatu, and Burunlita villages to educate the locals about the consequences of opium cultivation.

Community Cooperation Leads to Success

Following the awareness drives, residents voluntarily eradicated opium crops on an additional 6 acres of land. The police praised the community’s cooperation and emphasized their ongoing efforts to curb the illegal practice. “Our focus remains on destroying such crops while educating the public about its legal and social ramifications,” a police spokesperson stated.

Efforts to Continue in the District

West Singhbhum police have reiterated their commitment to eliminating illegal opium farming through regular monitoring and sustained community engagement. The campaign is expected to expand to other areas with suspected illegal farming activities.
