GHATSHILA – Ghatshila College’s Santali Department celebrated Santali Language Day with cultural festivities and recognition of literary excellence.
The significance of January 7, 2004, marks a historic milestone for the Santali language. On this date, it was officially included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Literary Achievements Recognized
Four prominent Santali literary figures received special recognition during the event. The honorees included Bhujango Tutu, Salkhu Murmu, Arjun Manjhi, and Rajnikant Manjhi.
Surya Singh Besra, a distinguished Santali writer, shared insights about the language’s evolution. He emphasized the college’s vital role in promoting Santali literature and culture.
Support for Tribal Education
Nitisha Besra, Director of Adiniti Development Foundation, presented significant financial support. Ten tribal students received checks worth Rs 10,000 each.
The Foundation made a landmark announcement at the event. It committed to providing scholarship support for the next decade.
Future Initiatives
The Foundation pledged additional support for the college’s national seminar. Dr. R.K. Chaudhary, the college principal, presided over the function.
