MEDININAGAR – FIR 424 lodged in Medininagar town police station on November 28, 2024, is now under ATS investigation. This high-profile case involves threats and extortion targeting stone traders.

The case revolves around stone trader Shashikant Gupta, who filed a complaint against Deepak Singh for demanding extortion. Deepak Singh allegedly sent threatening messages to Gupta, demanding money and warning of severe consequences for non-compliance.

Case Background and Progress

Palamu Police uncovered links to the notorious Sujit Sinha gang during their probe. The extortion racket targeted stone quarry owners in areas like Chhatarpur, Hariharganj, Pipra, Medininagar, and Chainpur. Police also arrested two suspects from Uttar Pradesh and five others fleeing after a shooting incident near Chainpur.

ATS Takes Over the Investigation

Considering the involvement of organized crime, Palamu SP Reeshma Rameshan handed over the case to ATS. “Given its complexity and ties to notorious gangs, ATS is best suited for the investigation,” she stated.

The ATS will delve deeper into gang connections and apprehend other accomplices. Their findings could provide significant breakthroughs in curbing organized extortion activities in the region.
