JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand High Court has reserved its decision on the appeal filed by Deepak Kumar, sentenced to death for the gruesome 2021 murder of his wife, two daughters, and a tutor in Jamshedpur’s Kadma area. The bench of Justices Rangan Mukhopadhyay and Arun Kumar Rai also heard the state government’s appeal seeking confirmation of the death penalty.

Background of the Case

The horrific crime came to light on April 12, 2021, when police recovered four bodies from quarters at Tista Road in Kadma. The victims were identified as Deepak Kumar’s wife Beena Kumari, daughters Diya Kumari and Sandhi Kumari, and tutor Rinki Ghosh. Following the murders, Deepak fled, initially traveling to Rourkela on a motorcycle and later booking a cab to Dhanbad. Police apprehended him while withdrawing money from an ATM in Dhanbad.
