JAMSHEDPUR – The STF has busted a major cow smuggling racket in Saraikela-Kharsawan district during a late-night operation.
The operation, carried out around 8 PM on Thursday, resulted in the seizure of 40 pairs of cattle in Kuchai police station area. The STF kept the entire operation highly confidential, even local police were unaware until it succeeded. Afterward, the STF handed over the seized cattle and detained four smugglers to Kuchai police. Official confirmation regarding the arrests is still pending.
Smuggling Through Rural Routes
Cow smugglers reportedly operate from Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum district. They transport cattle through remote routes, entering Saraikela via Toklo. From there, they proceed to Kharsawan, enter Khunti, and then exit to Bengal through Ichagarh, Chowka, Chandil, or Tiruldih.
The smuggling network thrives on strong local connections. Rural operatives manage police informants, ensuring smooth operations. The masterminds, however, remain hidden behind this rural network, which has been active for a long time.
Panic Among Smugglers and Informants
This successful operation has triggered panic among smugglers and their associates. A police source shared, “The network has been running for years, and this is a major step toward dismantling it.”
The focus now shifts to whether the STF can nab the ringleaders or if the case fades away. For now, the STF’s swift and covert action has sent shockwaves across the region.
