BJP and JMM Compete to Woo Women Voters in Jharkhand

Rival parties propose cash schemes ahead of assembly polls

Key Points:

• JMM seeks EC approval for Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women

• BJP’s ‘Gogo Didi’ scheme promises Rs 2,100 per month

• CM orders action against ECI norm violations in voter enrollment

RANCHI – Political parties in Jharkhand are intensifying efforts to attract women voters before the upcoming assembly elections.

The ruling JMM has proposed a new financial assistance scheme for women.

JMM’s ‘Samman Yojana’ aims to provide Rs 2,500 monthly to female beneficiaries.

The party has sought Election Commission approval for the scheme’s implementation.

Meanwhile, BJP has announced its ‘Gogo Didi’ scheme, offering Rs 2,100 monthly.

JMM claims BJP’s voter registration form violates electoral norms.

Moreover, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered action against such violations.

The JMM alleges that BJP is collecting voter details under the guise of surveys.

Both parties are competing to offer the most attractive financial package to women.

JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey submitted a memorandum to the EC.

He argues that if BJP’s scheme is permitted, JMM’s should also be allowed.

The EC prohibits parties from luring voters with post-election beneficiary schemes.

Furthermore, collecting voter details for such schemes is considered a corrupt practice.

JMM claims its scheme was planned earlier but awaits EC approval.

A political analyst noted, "Women voters have become a crucial demographic in Jharkhand politics."

On the other hand, these competing schemes raise questions about fiscal responsibility.
