Assam CM suggests former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren may join BJP, strengthening the party’s position in Jharkhand.
RANCHI – Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma hinted at the possibility of former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren joining the BJP.
Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his desire for Champai Soren to join the BJP, citing potential party strengthening.
The Assam Chief Minister’s comments come amid speculation about Champai Soren’s possible switch from JMM to BJP.
Sarma revealed he had multiple conversations with Champai Soren but did not discuss politics.
"If he is in Delhi, we will try to communicate with him," Sarma told reporters, referring to Champai Soren’s presence in the national capital.
The BJP leader, who serves as the party’s election in-charge for Jharkhand, emphasized the BJP’s willingness to engage with current Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren.
Sarma addressed Hemant Soren’s allegations of BJP attempting to divide JMM, stating, "Look, I even want Hemant Soren to join the BJP. BJP means devotion towards the nation."
He highlighted the party’s readiness to discuss the issue of intruders in Jharkhand with Hemant Soren.
"We are ready to talk to Hemant Soren regarding intruders in Jharkhand. We want to save Jharkhand; it is never about the BJP," Sarma explained.
In a surprising statement, Sarma suggested that if Hemant Soren fulfills his promise of providing five lakh jobs before September 31, "maybe the BJP will not contest the elections."
Shifting focus, Sarma addressed recent rape cases in Assam, claiming a decrease in numbers since BJP’s governance.
"After we came to power, the numbers dropped from 3,000 to 900. However, even if the number drops to one, it is still not a matter of satisfaction," he stated.
The Assam CM advocated for stricter laws and faster judicial processes to combat such crimes effectively.
Regarding the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), Sarma noted that a decision would be made after the notification is released, keeping employees’ convenience in mind.
