Protests erupted in Kolhan on Wednesday, with road blockades set up in response to forced land acquisition, unpaid compensation, and desecration of tribal religious and cultural sites.
SERAIKELA – A blockade was initiated by a variety of social organizations across Kolhan on Wednesday in protest of the desecration of tribal religious and cultural sites, unpaid compensation, and forced land acquisition in Titirbila village, Saraikela-Kharsawan district.
The roads in Titirbila village, which include Saraikela-Tata, Saraikela-Kharsawan, and Saraikela-Rajnagar, were blocked by residents commanded by Munda Mahendra Hembrom and District President of the Adivasi Ho Mahasabha Ganesh Gangarai.
In Karanidih, Jamshedpur, residents burned tires and blocked roads, resulting in substantial traffic congestion, in a manner similar to the previous demonstrations.
The police made an effort to remove the blockades.
The protests have had a significant impact, as tribal organizations have halted vehicles and blocked roads with smoldering tires in the district headquarters in Saraikela and other blocks.
The Titirbila Gramsabha, Manki Munda Sangh, Adivasi Chhatra Ekta, Jharkhand Andolankari Manch, Adivasi Ho Samaj Mahasabha, and Adivasi Yuva Mahasabha are among the organizations that are actively engaged in the closure.
The conspiracies to forcibly evict tribals from their lands in Kolhan would no longer be tolerated, as Ganesh Gangarai emphasized, and he promised a strong response.
He emphasized that tribals are being forcibly displaced from their lands, despite the constitutional provisions such as the CNT Act, SPT Act, and the Fifth Schedule..
He maintained that the raiyats’ properties should be acquired in accordance with established regulations and laws; however, these provisions are being disregarded by government officials.
The protests are intended to increase awareness of these concerns and to compel the administration to take action.
