Railway Division Launches Major Upgrade of Chakradharpur Line

25,500 Sleepers to be Replaced in Ambitious Infrastructure Overhaul

Comprehensive modernization aims to boost train speeds and enhance freight capacity on the Howrah-Mumbai route.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Chakradharpur Railway Division has embarked on an extensive upgrade of its infrastructure, focusing on the critical Howrah-Mumbai line.

A senior railway official stated, "We’re replacing 25,500 sleepers as part of our Safe Train Operation Plan, significantly enhancing track stability and safety."

The project, spanning 741 km and 87 stations, will see improvements to rail lines, signal systems, and traction equipment.

"Our goal is to increase train speeds while ensuring passenger safety," the official added, highlighting the modernization of the signal system from Ghatshila to Chandil.

This ambitious plan aligns with the Railway Board’s target for the division to transport 160 million tonnes of freight in 2024-25.

To support this goal, repairs are scheduled for 22 loading points and yards across eight districts in Jharkhand and Odisha.

"These upgrades will allow freight trains to travel 110 km without interruptions, boosting our operational efficiency," explained a divisional manager.

The project builds on previous improvements, including a Rs 3.5 crore investment in track upgrades from Nimpura to Kandra Chandil.

Local commuter Rajesh Kumar expressed optimism about the changes, saying, "Faster, safer trains will be a boon for daily travelers like me."

This comprehensive overhaul is expected to significantly impact both passenger comfort and freight logistics in the region.
