JAMSHEDPUR – A meeting was held on Tuesday at the Gaushala premises in Naya Bazaar in response to the ongoing issue of elephants causing trouble in the Chakulia area.

A group of local traders and representatives from the panchayat came together to have a discussion about the growing dangers caused by elephants.

The attendees mentioned that over the past couple of years, there has been a group of elephants that has been causing a lot of damage to property and putting human lives at risk.

Discussion on Elephant Attacks

During the meeting, participants noted that elephants frequently enter villages, damaging homes and eating or destroying stored food supplies.

The market area is also no longer safe, with elephants entering and causing havoc.

Residents expressed frustration with the forest department’s lack of effective measures to address the problem.

Memorandum Submitted to Forest Department

Following the meeting, a delegation visited the forest department office and submitted a memorandum to the ranger.

The memorandum detailed the ongoing issues, stating that the elephant attacks have intensified over the past 1-2 years.

All villages and urban areas in the Chakulia region are affected.

Elephants have destroyed crops, damaged property, and even caused fatalities.

The Gaushala, ancient temples like Naganal Dev Sthan, and various small and large industries have also suffered due to the elephant rampages.

Impact on Daily Life

The elephant menace has severely impacted the daily lives of residents.

Farmers are afraid to work in the fields, and workers are hesitant to go to industries.

Patients in rural areas cannot visit hospitals after dark due to fear of elephant attacks.

Urban residential areas have also faced significant damage.

Call for Immediate Action

Residents demanded immediate and effective action from the forest department to resolve the issue and ensure their safety.

They warned that if no concrete steps are taken within a week, they would be forced to initiate a protest.
