Election Commission Signals Possible Early Polls In Jharkhand

Preparations Underway For Potential October Elections Alongside Maharashtra And Haryana

Officials to review voter lists and readiness with deputy commissioners on July 11.

RANCHI – The Election Commission of India is considering the possibility of announcing Jharkhand assembly elections earlier than the scheduled date of January 5, 2025. There is a chance that the polls could take place as early as October.

"The voter revision in Jharkhand is happening at the same time as Maharashtra and Haryana," said a source who is familiar with the Election Commission.

The publication date for the final voter list has been scheduled for August 20, which is earlier compared to previous election cycles.

The eligibility date for voter revision has been set as July 1, indicating that an election may take place in October.

On July 10, Senior Deputy Election Commissioners Dharmendra Sharma and Nitesh Vyas will be visiting Jharkhand.

A meeting has been scheduled for July 11 in Patratu, Ramgarh district. This meeting will be attended by all state deputy commissioners.

The Election Commission has the authority to announce elections up to 180 days before the term of a government comes to an end.

This potential early election would align Jharkhand’s polling schedule with that of Maharashtra and Haryana.

It seems that political parties are getting ready in case there is an announcement about an election in October.

The accelerated preparations suggest that there has been a change from the initially planned January 2025 election date.
