JMM Initiates Anti-Defection Proceedings Against Rebel MLA Lobin Hembrom

Party takes stern action after Borio legislator contested Lok Sabha polls as independent

Hembrom’s suspension highlights JMM’s zero-tolerance policy towards election rebels.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has initiated anti-defection proceedings against Borio MLA Lobin Hembrom under the 10th Schedule before the Speaker’s Tribunal.

This move comes after Hembrom contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Rajmahal constituency.

Hembrom’s candidacy was in direct opposition to JMM’s official candidate Vijay Hansda.

The party had previously suspended Hembrom for six years on May 17 for violating coalition dharma.

Vijay Hansdak secured a hat-trick of wins, defeating BJP’s Tala Marandi by a margin of 1,78,264 votes.

JMM garnered 6,13,371 votes in Rajmahal, while BJP received 4,35,107 votes.

Hembrom, contesting as an independent, managed to secure 42,140 votes.

This action against Hembrom signals JMM’s strict stance against party rebels during elections.

The anti-defection proceedings could potentially lead to Hembrom’s disqualification as an MLA.

JMM’s decision reflects its efforts to maintain party discipline and loyalty among its elected representatives.

The case highlights the complexities of coalition politics and intra-party dissent in Jharkhand.

This development may have significant implications for JMM’s internal dynamics and future candidate selections.
