Chhau Dance and Santhali Drama Competition Held in Ghatshila Block

Cultural Event Organized by Public Shiv Puja Committee Showcases Traditional Art Forms

A vibrant Chhau dance and Santhali drama competition was organized by the Public Shiv Puja Committee Chakdaha in the Banki Panchayat under Ghatshila block, drawing participants and spectators from various regions.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Public Shiv Puja Committee Chakdaha hosted a Chhau dance and Santhali drama competition in the Banki Panchayat of Ghatshila block, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the area.

The event featured performances by the Manbhum Shaili Tribal Chhau Dance Association from Seraikela Kharsawan and the Kunwardih Tribal Vamakali Chhau Dance Academy from Purulia.

The Santhali drama competition saw intense participation, with Baba Tilka Manjhi Gayan Gaonta from Mayurbhanj, Odisha, winning the first prize of Rs 12,000.

Chapol from Odisha secured the second prize of Rs 10,000, while Beldih took home the third prize of Rs 8,000.

The program was graced by MLA Ramdas Soren as the chief guest and JMM’s Central General Secretary Babulal Soren as the special guest.

Honored guests included Zilla Parishad member Devyani Murmu and Chief Fagu Soren.

The event was also attended by village head Byram Hembram, Sunil Murmu, Narsingh Hembram, Khudiram Soren, Ranjit Hembram, Amit Mahato, Nripendra Mahato, Guidi Soren, Nagen Soren, Sagram Mandi, Manohar Mahato, Pradhan Soren, Dhiren Soren, Ram Hembram, Shiva Karmakar, Deputy Chief Bishu Tudu, and JMM leaders Kalipada Gorai, Bharat Murmu, Kajal Dan, and Simanto Pal.

The competition not only showcased the traditional Chhau dance but also brought to light the dramatic talents within the Santhali community.

The presence of distinguished guests added to the event’s significance, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting cultural traditions.

The performances were well-received by the audience, who appreciated the skill and artistry of the participants.

The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the winners were honored for their outstanding performances.

Such cultural events play a crucial role in keeping traditional art forms alive and provide a platform for local artists to display their talents.
